When a uPVC or composite door suddenly refuses to lock or open, many homeowners panic and assume they need an entirely new door. In 99% of cases, you don't.

Multi-point locking systems are complex, but they are entirely repairable. With over 20 years of hands-on experience, Andy at Emergency Local Locksmith specializes in diagnosing and repairing uPVC door faults on the spot. We carry a massive, fully-stocked inventory of replacement gearboxes, center cases, and full multi-point locking strips on the van.

Whether it is a broken spindle, a shattered gearbox, or a door that has dropped out of alignment due to heat expansion, we will strip the lock down, replace only the broken components, and realign the hinges so the door closes perfectly.

Common uPVC Door Faults We Fix Daily

• The Handle is "Floppy": If the handle has lost its spring tension and points downwards, the internal spring cassette or the central gearbox has shattered.

• The Door is Jammed Shut: If the key turns but the door won't open, the internal mechanism has completely failed while in the locked position. We use specialist techniques to bypass the lock and open the door without causing any damage to the uPVC panel.

• You Have to Force the Handle Up: If you are slamming the door or throwing your weight onto the handle to engage the locks, the door has dropped out of alignment. Continuing to force it will snap the gearbox. We can realign the toe and heel of the door to make it lock smoothly again.

• The Key Turns but Doesn't Lock: The euro cylinder has snapped its cam, or the connecting rod inside the multi-point strip has disconnected.
